Apple's October 22 developer update describes applications adjusted for iPhone Duo ahead of its October 23 launch. The company highlights transitions between matching screen aspect ratios and Split View on the inner display. Its examples show how streaming, entertainment and productivity interfaces can respond to a phone that changes shape rather than simply displaying a larger version of the same page.
Software is part of the foldable proposition
Netflix Clips can change orientation, while Prime Video can separate playback from X-Ray information when the device is partly folded. Apple also announced App Store collections and a badge identifying optimized applications. These are concrete examples from the platform owner, but they do not establish that every app, account tier or regional version provides the same experience.
NEXTECH analysis: continuity earns its place
Continuity is the important design test. A larger screen helps less if the user loses their position, must repeat an action or cannot return easily to a one-handed task. A useful adaptation should make the transition feel like part of the activity. Prospective buyers should examine the applications they depend on instead of treating a list of launch partners as a complete compatibility guarantee.
A badge is a starting point for evaluation
We have not tested any of the described interfaces. The announcement also anticipates further updates, so the launch list is not a fixed inventory of everything the device will support. Check the current app listing and software requirements, then try opening, folding and resuming the same task. That sequence would tell us more about everyday usefulness than a static screenshot of a crowded display.
